Claims Technician - Job Details

Reporting to: Property Claims Manager
Overall purpose of job:
Provide claims handling support to the Property Team ensuring adherence to agreed business processes and procedures.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Deal with telephone enquiries from both internal and external services in a professional and efficient manner.
- Action incoming post/correspondence daily.
- To handle and resolve customer complaints in line with FSA guidelines.
- To support colleagues in their work in order to maintain levels of teamwork and service to the customer.
- Pro-actively manage the claim, suppliers, adjusters and policyholders through the effective use of a diary system to ensure the claim is settled promptly and in accordance with policy cover.
- Comply with Nexus Claims Processes and Procedures.
- Advise your manager/referral contact of any claim, which exceeds your licence authority immediately.
- Maintain day to day control of your own work levels.
- Accurately update the claims system with file notes and reserves.
- Act as a referral point for less experienced team members, providing individual coaching where necessary.
- Act as a focal point for property product queries.
- Make decisions on claims up to a delegated authority.
- Liaise with underwriters regarding notification of large losses.
- Maintain awareness of socio-legal developments which impact on claims handling and procedures.
- Authorisation of payments to an agreed level.
- Build and maintain relationships with housing association and brokers.
Technical Skills Required:
- Experience of working in a customer service and claims environment
- PC literate in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills (written and verbal)
- Attention to detail and ability to undertake repetitive work.
