Claims Technician - Job Details

Reporting to: Property Claims Manager

Overall purpose of job:

Provide claims handling support to the Property Team ensuring adherence to agreed business processes and procedures.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Deal with telephone enquiries from both internal and external services in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Action incoming post/correspondence daily.
  • To handle and resolve customer complaints in line with FSA guidelines.
  • To support colleagues in their work in order to maintain levels of teamwork and service to the customer.
  • Pro-actively manage the claim, suppliers, adjusters and policyholders through the effective use of a diary system to ensure the claim is settled promptly and in accordance with policy cover.
  • Comply with Nexus Claims Processes and Procedures.
  • Advise your manager/referral contact of any claim, which exceeds your licence authority immediately.
  • Maintain day to day control of your own work levels.
  • Accurately update the claims system with file notes and reserves.
  • Act as a referral point for less experienced team members, providing individual coaching where necessary.
  • Act as a focal point for property product queries.
  • Make decisions on claims up to a delegated authority.
  • Liaise with underwriters regarding notification of large losses.
  • Maintain awareness of socio-legal developments which impact on claims handling and procedures.
  • Authorisation of payments to an agreed level.
  • Build and maintain relationships with housing association and brokers.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Experience of working in a customer service and claims environment
  • PC literate in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills (written and verbal)
  • Attention to detail and ability to undertake repetitive work.
